Maundy or Passion Thursday marks the Last Supper, which is the same day as The Feast of the Passover in the Jewish calendar. Following the meal Jesus washed the feet of the Apostles then broke bread, offering it to them and saying, "Eat this, for this is my body". He then gave them wine, and said, "Drink this, for this is my blood." He instructed the disciples to, "Do this in remembrance of me."
Later, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus to Roman soldiers and was paid twenty pieces of silver. Following his arrest, Jesus' was tried and condemned to death by Pontius Pilate. He was taken to the hill of Golgotha, where was nailed to a cross and died among thieves.
Luke's Gospel tells us that Jesus' last words were, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"
Jesus' body was laid in a tomb offered by Joseph of Arimathea, sealed closed by a boulder.
