Easter Sunday

He is risen.

This is the statue of Christ on the south back of the River Tagus at Lisbon, Christ looks towards the city. The picture was taken from a moving car.

.....

Easter is the most important festival of the Christian calendar, it marks the day that Jesus rose from the dead.

It's a time of renewal and rebirth, hence Easter Eggs.

Easter is a moveable feast. At the Council of Nicea in AD 325 it was decided that it should be celebrated on the Sunday closest to the first full moon after the vernal (Spring) equinox which is on either 20th or 21st March.

Eastern churches celebrate at Easter a different time.

There have been several attempts to fix the date, the last consultations were in 2001.
