Blue tit - Parus caeruleus
Speaking with tongues. Blue tit, Parus caeruleus is one of the commonest UK garden birds. It was listed in the top 15 birds of the 2007 RSPB Garden Birdwatch survey. This one was on a feeder in our garden. .

Nice detail in his feather.
Nice color in the background. Lovely shot Ellie!
Ellie: Thank you Remi. In the background is a willow tree with new yellow leaves.
Chez Eleanor's looks like a fine eating establishment for the birds.
It is an interesting picture for the dichotomy of the fluffy little Tit and the cage that is keeping it out.
Ellie: Oh absolutely Ray, they're queueing up for the breakfast menu!
The cage keeps the squirrel out too, well, nearly!
Cool shot! Love the colour in the background. The bird itself is quite dark though, especially in relation to the background. Cool use a boost in contrast as well. Still, a very good catch! Love the tongue sticking out.
Ellie: Hi, thanks
The background is mainly a willow tree that's just coming into leaf, they're yellow to begin with, it's quite a way from the feeder. No chance of more contrast with the weather we've been having I'm afraid
They're so similar to our black-capped chickadees, our friendliest garden birds.
Ellie: Ah, now if I remember I think I've seen those on somebody's site - yours? They've got black caps a bit like the Coal Tit - which I've never been able to photograph, they're too quick. This one's supposed to have a bright blue cap, but for some reason or other the local population is quite pale.
A blue tit with a tongue. I will have to think about that.
Having a tongue is probably the last thing I ever think about birds. Excellent 'capture' of the tongue - ok, the whole picture
Ellie: My thoughts exactly Louis, I'd never, ever thought of them having a tongue.
Ellie - great shot - well captured, especially with the tongue sticking out
Ellie: It really was a suprise when I opened the image, I hadn't seen the bird's tongue for myself, so it was a lovely bonus.
Great details on it and great DOF !!!
Ellie: Thanks Ann
Very nice capture. I like the plain background!
Ellie: There are trees in the background, very blurred out because of the shallow focus. The yellow is the new leaves on a weeping willow, the pink is a slump of red stemmed something or other, forget the name.
Very good capture
Ellie: Thanks
I've snapped a pair of green finches through the glass of our kitchen door but have never thought of posting it. Perhaps I will now. You are my inspiration as far as birdy pics go Ellie. richard
Ellie: Well, you should share them Richard, they're lovely birds. I've got one coming up later this week, but it's quite grainy because it was so dark/overcast outside.
I am impressed here, it is like Ray says....Chez Eleanor is the right place to be, great close-up.
Ellie:
Great timing. I don't think I ever saw one of these stick out its tongue at the camera
Ellie: Luck Martin, that's all, I've never seen anything like this either.
This shows that we can all get decent shots in our own back gardens Ellie, well done. Interesting background colour.
Ellie: One tip though, make sure your windows are cleaner than mine otherwise it affects the focus
The background is from the new leaves on a Weeping Willow, they're bright yellow. SHallow focus made them blur completely.
This is a lovely picture. The natural history types would want it pin sharp, but the slight softness adds to the charm as a picture for me.
Ellie: I don't do pin sharp, not handheld at 300mm - not yet anyway, but I'm working on it. To be honest, I think it'd need a much faster lens, and I'll never get one of those, so this is the best it's likely to get. I like the picture though, pure serendipity.
Great shot Ellie, nice.
Ellie: Thanks Dave
The company that makes the suet might pay you for an image as good as that....!! Great one Ellie
Ellie: You reckon I should ask them? ...
Hi Ellie! Lovely capture - great detail, and wonderful background. I love these little birds. (:o)
Ellie: The background is a willow tree Roz, just coming into leaf. I like these too, but only realised the last day or two that the blue tits in our garden are very pale, must be a 'local' population thing.
Cute and really well done !
Ellie: Thanks Zeb
Beautiful detail to this, Ellie; you can see the individual feathers.
Ellie: Thanks Alan, even though it's not 'pin' sharp I thought the detail was pretty good too.
He's cute Ellie, love these tiny little birds.
Wow I am so amazed at the detail here. I know how hard it is to capture these little cuties. Very soft and well done.
It almost looks as though he is on his own little ladder! Great capture.
